One of the first checkpoints to get into camp Phoenix. Notice the little Welcome Wagon on top of the word welcome in the sign on the left.
It's a 50cal machine gun. Loaded, cocked, and ready to ROCK & ROLL.
This is one of the escort vehicles you need to get outside the gates.
Afghanistan / Pakistan Mountains It is not often that you can see the mountains
around Camp Phoenix. It is usually so hazy they are not visable. These pictures were taken after a recent snow and a little bit of wind.
These are the mountains to the North.
These are the mountains to the North West.
These mountains are to the South East towards Pakistan.
Here is where I live and work in Camp Phoenix.
This condo complex is nicknamed "LegoLand". It is just as it sounds. These are containers stacked together and modified with a heater/AC unit.
Here is my front door. I covered it with a towel to keep it dark. It is pitch black inside during the day. There are no other windows or openings.
Out the back is an area we walk through to get to the rest of the Camp. Here it had just snowed for the first time.
Come on in!
Purchased a standup closet to hang my clothes in. The little Afghan rug in front of it is over 100 years old.
My laptop computer doubles as my TV. The cable is free and has 12 channels.
It is the Armed Forces network so I do NOT have to listen to any political commercials.
Here is the winterized version of my bed. The blanket is made from fox and mink pelts and fortunately is very warm.
Bought a little refrigerator to keep water, milk, and yoghurts cold.
The storage over my bed is full, and under my bed is stuffed also.
Here's the building I work in. I can't take you inside but you can see there are no windows. Standing outside are some of my Army soldiers I support.
If it looks cold, it is!
Here are some visitors from Turkey. These are quite the vehicles. The Turks take no prisioners.
I make a lousy terrorist. I look just like a white American dressed up in an Afghan hat and scarf. No Afghan is this fat.
Some of our partners from France.
These French warriors were pretty good at Texas Holdem!
