Poker Tournament in Camp Phoenix

On Sundays and Thursdays at 7:00 PM, a group of us take over the east side of the DEFAC (chow hall)
and put on a No Limit Texas Hold'em poker game. Both military and civilians play. The military guys
are expected to carry their weapons all the time, so the old saying of "put your guns and knives on
the table" does not apply. It would get real crowded. Playing with someone that has a 9MM strapped
to his leg or shoulder is not intimidating at all. I rather like to have everyone with their guns at
their side. The more guns I see the more relaxed I feel. Remember where I am.
We play for points and prizes. The prizes for each game are a movie or a computer game, and the prizes
for the final tournament can range from an X-BOX or WII machine to a $100 embroidered jacket. We have
enjoyed the support of the Wynn Casino in Las Vegas who has generously provided us decks of cards and
small prizes like key chains. We thank them very much.

The players at the final table sign their names around where they were sitting. My friend Sam Hussaini was at the final table for season 5. These three 6's made me the champion against the 2 pair of Aces and Kings in season 6.
